Curatorial Project - Art Appreciation 1100

Each student will choose an organizing theme or topic for his/her exhibition as well as how to organize the exhibition. There are, however, several required components that must be present in each exhibition. These include the following:

  • A "Curatorial Statement" that functions as an introduction to the exhibition. This statement should discuss the exhibition's organizing theme or topic and provide a brief critical analysis and discussion of the works included in the exhibition. Be sure to properly cite any external information that is paraphrased and/or quoted in the critical discussion. (100-200 words)
  • Determine a Venue for your Exhibition. Will this work be shown in a typical museum? On the street? You get to make the call. Be specific with your place.
  • A collection of critical information about each piece. Who is the Artist? Why was the piece created? Do some external research. Be sure to properly cite any external information that is paraphrased and/or quoted in the critical discussion.
  • Exhibition "labels" for each piece. Label information should include: Work's title, name of artist, year created, and medium. These should be underneath each image in your PowerPoint.
  • High-quality screen shots or images of each work. Make sure that your images don’t appear pixilated after you upload to your presentation. Also determine a sequence for your pieces to guide the viewer through the exhibition. How will this reflect your theme?
  • Citation slide. You need to provide at least 6 different sources for the images and information provided.
