How do I request a book through GIL Express?

  1. Go to the Kaufman Library homepage.  Under Resources, click on My Library Account.

  2. Log in with your current GGC username and password.  You may be required to authenticate (MFA - Multi-Factor Authentication) with the same method you chose for your GGC email (a code sent via text, etc.).

  3. Click on Library Search.  Use the search box to find your desired materials

  4. If your materials can't be found at GGC, try your search again, but this time, change the location to University System of Georgia.

  5. If your search is successful, click on the title you want.  (Note:  Your book may be available at more than one location.)

  6. Choose an available item.  At Request Options: Request, click on Request.

  7. Make sure the Pickup Institution is set to Georgia Gwinnett College and the Pickup Library is Kaufman Library.  If you don't have a time limit, leave the Not Needed After box blank.

  8. Click on Request.  If your request has been successful, you should see Request placed.

  9. Tips:  Under your Requests, click on the institution where you requested the book to make sure your request is visible.  You view your loans and renew them the same way (you must choose the institutions where they came from).  Don't forget to sign out of your library account when finished!

Note: First-time GGC Faculty and Staff users must stop by the Circulation Desk and fill out paperwork so that a library account can be set up for them.

What is GIL Express?

GIL Express:

  • Allows currently-enrolled University System of Georgia students and currently-employed USG faculty and staff access to eligible circulating materials in USG libraries.
  • Can be used to obtain materials as a walk-up patron or request them online.
  • Requires all patrons to be in good standing at their home institution, with no blocks on their account (from overdues, lost items, etc.)
  • Books requested online will be transported to the patron's institution of choice for local pick-up and check-out.
  • Please note:  Certain types of materials may not be eligible for GIL Express, including:
    • Reference, DVDs, periodicals, items in rare or special collections, and others designated by the individual USG library.
    • DVDs and journal articles may be available on-site (as a walk-up patron) or via the Kaufman Library's Interlibrary Loan service.
