Librarian TIP: I like to read an overview of a topic because it tells the history, key studies, key researchers in the field, and often current directions of research about the topic. Overviews help me recognize the names of experts when skimming the article titles I find in Sociology databases. It also helps me look for key studies (including name and author). It makes me a stronger researcher and more familiar with sociological terms.
