Embedding Library Content into D2L

Course Research Guides

You also have the option to manually embed specific library content within a D2L course. This content includes library research guides and the A-Z list of library databases. This process can be used to embed a guide created specifically for your course rather than the broader discipline research guide.

When using the manual process, you can choose to embed a full research guide or only specific pages/parts of the guide. You can choose whether to embed the entire A-Z list of library databases or filter the list by subject (See Database List page for information). The manual process gives you more control over what to embed than the process for the auto matched research guide but it does require more steps to embed the content.

Because this process requires more knowledge of the library's research guide platform, your liaison librarian is an excellent resource for any questions you may have.

  3. Click Kaufman Library Resources (default title for your content in your module) to launch the next steps of the manual embedding process. Step Three - Manually Adding a Research Guide

  4. Next, choose what type of content you want to embed within your course. You can choose a full research guide, a single page of a research guide, a single content box from a page of a research guide, or library databases (covered on the Database List page). If you're unsure which option to choose, your liaison librarian is happy to assist. In this example, we are going to embed a single page from a research guide for a course.

Step Four - Manually Adding a Research Guide

  5. You will now continue selecting the specific content you want to embed. In this example, we will choose the research guide from which we want to embed a single page.

Step Five - Manually Adding a Research Guide

  6. Next, we will select which page from the research guide we want to embed. Then click the Embed Content button.

Step Six - Manually Adding a Research Guide

  7. You will see the message shown below, and you have successful embedded library content using the manual process.

Step Seven - Manually Adding a Research Guide

  8. Refresh the page to view your embedded content. Because you are an instructor in D2L for your course, you will see an intermediary page first (shown below). From this page, you can choose whether to view the content you just embedded or edit your selection to embed different content.

Step Eight - Manually Adding a Research Guide

  9. When you click View Content, you will see the embedded content exactly as students in your course will view it.
