Provide an:

  • overview of the issue
  • any laws/policies/funding sources concerning human service provision for this issue
  • Detailed description of one human service agency that provides services for this issue.

a) Overview: You may consult several sources (books, web resources, magazines, scholarly journal articles or monographs) for this section. Be sure to include legit sources.

Sample topic: autism during childhood. Your paper would begin with an overview of autism that includes incidence rates and statistics (local, regional, national), description of the disorder, etiology, prevention, and treatment (if any).

b) Laws/Policies/Programs/Advocacy organizations/Funding sources Identify within the United States, specifically Georgia, any applicable laws or policies that are applicable for the issue. What organizations are active at the national and regional level? What role do they play in advocating for this issue? What is their mission statement? What population do they serve? What are their funding sources? What are examples of programs that address this issue?

c) Services: List the agency’s website URL, agency’s service population, how clients get referred to them, types of services provided, how long services are provided, payment information, subsidies provided, and follow-up services.

You can also contact the agency to get their brochure or seek to have a phone conversation or online video chat to get the information you need. Introduce yourself as a HDAS student at GGC writing a paper for this course.

  • Call or email the agency.

Please note that the topics for the presentation are different from the topics for the Human Service Focus Paper (HSFP). They cannot be identical or related.

a) An important component of your presentation is to research the topic that you signed up for from the perspective of another country.

b) Include a general introductory slide that introduces the other country (not the United States), and then specifically focus on the issue on hand.  You are encouraged to make comparisons between the United States and another country.

Be prepared to back your presentation with reliable sources. Wikipedia and the like are not regarded as legitimate sources for this course.

Throughout the presentation, wherever work is cited on each slide, please be sure to state author and year.

An APA style (7th edition) reference list must also be provided on the last slide.
